January 2026


We had a special guest at this month’s meeting! He (she?) was quite interested in what we were doing and hung around for some time.
It was another large group with a couple of new members joining us for the first time.
The meeting began and the Treasurer gave her report. She was also collecting dues for those who had not yet paid.
Aviva talked about the aprons she found that are cotton with minimal shrinkage. Cheryle made up a great logo for the aprons to go on the front. Aviva will order about 30 aprons and member cost will be $46 for those who wanted to purchase one.
Carol reminded us that Saturday, January 24 is Meridian Jacob’s Shearing Day from 9am-noon. You’re welcome to come watch the shearing and shop in Robin’s lovely shop.

Next month’s meeting will be a Clemes & Clemes drum carding workshop for those who have signed up. Other members are welcome to come to History Park and sit under the palms for their informal meeting.

Kelly shared crochet gloves and scarf, as well as a finished skein of mohair from Aviva, muga silk from Sharolene, and eucalyptus fiber. She also shared some mitts that she made from gifted fiber from France from Carole at a previous meeting.
Melanie passed around 3 beautiful cowls made from her handspun.
Laura shared a squishy skein that was spun on her new wheel that was fiber she blended with combs and a hackel.
Nicole shared a chunky skein made from fiber from FabMo.
Cheryle passed around finished knitted mitts.
Stephanie shared a skein made from a fiber subscription box.
Ron passed around a fun “spring time” sock.
Nancy was wearing a hand spun knitted sweater.

November 2025

It was a very large group again this month! So big that we almost didn’t fit in the Renzel Room! But we managed to squeeze everyone in along with tons of freebies.
New News
Aviva brought a sample apron that had minimal shrinkage. The company also does embroidery. A great possibility for our new guild aprons.
Nov 22-23 is the Socal Fiber Fair in Pomona.
It’s Bethlehem time again December 11-15. Carol Lewis will send out an email with details and is always looking for volunteers. It’s a fun time!
Next month is our holiday potluck and optional gift exchange. It will be held the SECOND Saturday, Dec 13, at Laura B’s house. Details will be emailed.
Our annual $15 dues are due in January. They can be paid by cash or check made out to Serendipity Spinners.

Sage shared her new e-spinner from Argonaught in the UK. She also passed around a skein that she spun on it.
Laura stopped by to tell us about the Oregon Flock & Fiber Fest in Albany, Oregon. She mentioned that is was very large and there were many breed of sheep that she’s never seen before. She passed around samples of interesting fleeces that followed her home.
Aviva was wearing a hand spun and knit sweater and also a hat made from merino/cashmere.
Ron shared hand spun mitts made with a 4 ply and chain plied yarn. He also passed around a gorgeous patterned hand woven scarf.
Marcia passed around her very cute crochet Hungry Caterpillar food for her grandson.
Cynthia shared a hand spun cowl.
Gail passed around a blanket made from Zoom Loom squares of her hand spun.
Brenda shared a cowl made from yarn she dyed.
Cookie shared a tiny Turkish spindle from Lambtown.
Kelsey was wearing a pretty hand spun sweater.
Rachel passed around a few skeins she naturally dyed with different types of eucalyptus leaves and also an already washed fleece from Lambtown.
Kelly also passed around a sample of her freshly washed Lambtown fleece and an eco printed butterfly that she made and stretched over canvas.
Melanie shared several hand spun skeins she just finished, including her first kid mohair.
Cheryl passed around several gorgeous cowls and shawls that she recently finished and also some samples from a lace knitting class in Burlingame.
October 2025

It was a lovely day under the palms at History Park. We had a large group including a couple of new members.

Kelly shared the new post cards she had made for the guild. A few people took some to hand out.
Aviva will try and find some aprons that don’t shrink as much as the ones from Dharma. We can then have our logo embroidered.

Yuno shared a gorgeous hand woven bag she got at Lambtown.
Christina showed us what she made in a card weaving class at Lambtown.
Melanie passed around some squishy hand spun skeins in a lovely red that she is spinning for a sweater.
Kelly shared some fiber that she got at Lambtown and passed around a finished skein of food coloring dyed fiber.
Aviva shared a hat made from hand spun with cashmere that she dyed black. She also shared a lovely sweater made from hand spun from 1989 New Zealand wool.
Sage shared a dragon she was making for a friend’s baby.
Courtney showed off her amazing market basket that she made in a class at Lambtown.
Tyler shared the beautiful shawls that the sheep-to-shawl team made at Lambtown. The virtual shawl got 2nd place and the in-person shawl got 1st place and grand champion! Great job team!
Rachel passed around a skein of art yarn she made during a class at Lambtown. She also shared some naturally dyed skeins from a Lambtown class and also sample cards.
Carol L passed around some skeins that she had entered in the recent county fairs.

We were at Houge Park again this month. It was a large meeting once again!
The treasurer gave her report via email as she was not able to attend the meeting.

New News
Sage informed the group that the publishers of Ply Magazine now have a weaving magazine called “Weft”.
Aprons were discussed again and new denim aprons are not cost effective. Lizzie had ordered plain white aprons from Dharma at about $6 ea. Stephanie has graciously offered to do the logo embroidery on them if we decide to go that way.
Kelly has volunteering to create a guild post-card/flier (via Vista Print) that is a little nicer than the half sheet of paper we have now. It was suggested that we also include a QR code.

Kelly shared a finished skein of BFL and tussah fiber that she got from this year’s Black Sheep Gathering. She also shared a fun crochet clown cake made from a Twinkie Chan pattern.
Heather showed us some gorgeous woven fabric that she intends to become some type of garment. The weft was her hand spun.
Sharolene shared a very cute knitted baby sweater that she was working on.
Cheryle sported a fun crochet Halloween headband and passed around several beautiful shawls.
Stephanie passed around her Tour De Fleece skeins.

Lizzy ordered aprons from Dharma for the participants of the Santa Clara County Fair Sheep To Shawl Demo. It is still up for discussion if they will be dyed, embroidered, etc for the event.

Gail Wilson informed us of a weaver in Rio Vista that is down sizing. She will send out an email with info.
Rachel suggested perhaps doing a “leave one, take one” for hand spun skeins. Kind of a fun way to trade.

For those who are entering items in the Santa Clara County Fair, drop off is 7/19 which is our meeting day. Kelly has offered to gather items and drop them off at the fair for those who can’t make it.

Kelly shared a finished crochet Christmas cowl and crochet mitts and matching scarf from her hand spun.
Laura was wearing a beautiful sweater made from Noro singles yarn. She also shared colorful balls of roving that she dyed to spin for sock yarn.
Rachel won first place for her handspun knitted sweater in the San Mateo County Fair. Go Rachel! She also got ribbons for a cute skeleton woven scarf. She also passed around another fun emotional support chicken.
Gail wore a gorgeous hand woven shirt.
Marcia passed around a cute crochet animal she made for her grandchildren. She also shared a handspun skein.
Melanie shared her first ever knitted beanie! She also showed off a pretty crochet scarf for her mom and another fun monthly crochet square for May.

This month we met at Houge Park in San Jose as History Park was not available. It was quite a windy day but there was a large turnout.

Aviva asked for volunteers for new guild officers: president, treasurer, secretary/note taker, webmaster, park liaison. She will send an email out to the guild so everyone can have the opportunity.
Lynn Curry is coordinating an informal Sheep to Shawl at this year’s Santa Clara County Fair July 30-Aug 3. She will send out an email with details as it gets closer. She also is encouraging everyone to enter one or more items in the Monterey, Santa Cruz, or Santa Clara County fairs.

The meeting took place indoors this month due to the chilly temps. It was a modest turn out.

April 19 is Hidden Villa’s sheep shearing in Los Altos Hills and we are invited to come demo spinning. It is great fun and a lovely setting. If you are interested please contact Christine Emmett, christina.c.emmett@gmail.com.

New News
A huge “thank you!” goes out to Ron and Laurel for recovering, working on, and finishing our website! It is very much appreciated!
Consider starting a project to enter in this year’s Santa Clara County, Santa Cruz County, and/or Monterey County Fairs. You can enter in one or all. The same item can be used.
Lynn is coordinating a spinning and weaving demo for this year’s Santa Clara County Fair. Also up for consideration is a non-competitive Sheep To Shawl. The dates are August 2 and 3.
The Guild has funds for a class or workshop should anyone have any ideas.
